Knit Snood

March14

Item: Hooded Scarf
Seller: Kampsun

knit hooded scarf for women 300x200 Knit Snood

I had never heard of a “snood” before visiting Kampsun on Etsy.com, and now that I know what it is, I’m pretty impressed/obsessed.

I am super-excited to present you my newest design for this winter/spring! A hooded scarf for women,” the seller writes in the Etsy item description. “This is the perfect alternative to a hat. It keeps you really warm and makes you look cute and trendy. Wrap this around you to keep warm and cozy. 100% merino. It can easily be wrapped around the neck once or even twice for extra warmth. It has a nice lace pattern and a really awesome texture.

I met Maria Kesvatera, the seller behind Kampsun, via my Etsy Item of the Day shop submission page.

Hello there, I’m Maria – the knitter and designer behind my shop Kampsun,” she told me. “My day job is actually in a theater orchestra where I play the violin, but in my spare time I just love doing all kinds of crafts, especially knitting. My shop originally started from wanting to share my love for knitting with others. I could never possibly wear all the things I knit, because there are just too many! Also I see a lot of traditional lovely knits, but I really want to take those traditions and come up with something new, edgy and fashionable.”

My shop name Kampsun is an Estonian word and it means “sweater“. It’s a name that made sense most, since I’ve always thought I would knit so many sweaters, that by the end of my life I could make a huge exhibition of them,” she said.

When she’s not crafting for her fun shop, Maria says she is likely traveling, reading books, going to all kinds of art exhibitions.

I love to ask Etsy sellers where they shop on Etsy.com because I usually get some fabulous leads on shops. After all, those on the site the most are probably the ones that know where we can all find some awesome handmade goods!

[My favorite] would be probably Umwelt. It’s quite a new shop, run by Maria – a dear friend to me,” she shared. “I enjoy her drawings so much and I’m really hoping her shop will be a success.

Maria tells other Etsy sellers to have an awesome product and best possible pictures. “These are the two most important things,” she advises.

Also SEO – a difficult thing to work on, but really useful,” she says.

So what’s next for Maria’s shop on Etsy?

I’m working on spring/summer accessories right now. I just listed three wonderful scarves today and hope there will be many more to come,” she tells me.

Love Maria’s work? Connect with her online and chat about her lovely snood designs! You can find her on Twitter @kampsunknit and on Facebook here.

Thanks for sharing your shop with me, Maria!

Dandelion with Birds TOMS

March1

Item: Dandelion with Birds TOMS
Seller: StellarKicks

Dandelion with Birds TOMS 300x200 Dandelion with Birds TOMS

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you know that I’m pretty obsessed with handpainted TOMS on Etsy.com.

Missed the memo? Here are some past features of great hand-painted TOMS:

BStreetShoes has some of my favorites AND does a monthly giveaway for a free pair!
- This feature of SoleReflections is one of my all-time most viewed features on the site.

When I came across StellarKicks, I had to add this shop to the list. Loving this dandelion with birds design!

My favorite is in blue:

What’s really cool about StellarKicks is that this seller paints other brands of shoes, not exclusively TOMS. Pretty cool!

Abstract Grey Chunky Circle Scarf

February11

Item: Grey Chunky Scarf
Seller: BlueBirdsFlyBoutique

Chunky Circle Scarf Abstract Grey Sweatshirt 300x200 Abstract Grey Chunky Circle Scarf

I came across BlueBirdsFlyBoutique because this shop was featured on Etsy.com’s blog. (You can see the feature here).

I love this seller’s infinity scarves. They are so beautiful!

One of my favorite things about the features on Etsy’s blog is the “behind the scenes” photos they show.  It’s awesome to see a crafter at work. Plus, how cool to get a glimpse into the world of a maker, right?!

Here are some great shots from the seller’s Etsy feature:

I’m Sarah. I live in a small town in beautiful Ontario, Canada and run my shop BlueBirdsFlyBoutique,” Sarah said in her interview. “I make infinity scarves, turban headbands, and arm warmers, and am slowly venturing into apparel.

My mom taught me how to sew years ago, and I was immediately addicted. Back then, I was really into streetwear and loved huge, wide-leg pants,” she continued. “Since they were really hard to find in shops, I began making them for myself. I started getting stopped all over Toronto by people asking where I got my pants. I guess it gave me a little extra courage to continue along my creative path. I’ve always loved working with my hands (I’m actually a former dental hygienist).

I loved hearing Sarah’s story in this feature. If you like her work and want to learn more, be sure to take a look at her feature here!
