Item: Sterling Keys – Big and Little

I don’t often blog about Kappa Kappa Gamma, my sorority during college. Kappa Kappa Gamma (otherwise known as “KKG” or simply “Kappa”) was a huge part of my life during college at the University of Utah. I loved it and met some really great lifetime friends!

In Kappa, each pledge is given a “key sister” during the time they are a pledge. It used to be called a “big sister” and a “little sister”, but I guess nationals decided that implied dominance (which can be considered hazing). Lame, right?

So the title was formally changed to “key sister”.

Anyway… the “key sister” is an older girl in the house who can help the new pledge get accustomed to Kappa life, help with schoolwork, go to parties, whatever the girl needs to transition from lonely freshman in a big school to happy college student.

I totally bucked tradition and called my “key sister” in the house my “little.” She would be, afterall, my “little sister” in the old tradition, so why not shorten it to “little”? I think it helped that she weighed 90 pounds – she truly was little!

My little is the greatest girl in the whole world! She made my time at Kappa so much fun – and is still one of my best friends! As I often say, “I just love my little!”

When I saw this item on Etsy, I was so excited and thought of her immediately! They are sterling keys – one big and one little… one for me and one for my little! Love it!
